Mark di Suvero composes large-scale sculptures by drawing in space with the use of steel beams. Often referred to as a kinetic artist, di Suvero has used motion as a central element of many of his sculptures since the 1960s. Equally important is a viewer’s participation in the work – moving around to capture its changing vistas, or interacting directly with the sculpture by swinging or banging on it. He is an idealist, looking to reignite the sense of wonder that is often lost as one progresses through life.
