Sharon Core points toward the disconnect of artworks by creating photographs that recreate paintings. In one photographic series Thiebauds, Core reversed the conventional practice of paintings copying photographs by painstakingly baking, coloring, arranging, and lighting her re-creations and then printing them the same size as pop artist Wayne Thiebaud’s originals. In another series Early American, Core takes the works of 19th century still life painter Raphaelle Peale (1774-1825) and re-creates the old-master-style images. To create the photograph, Core used fruit that she grew in her own greenhouse and authentic period porcelain and tableware that she collected.
