An abstract expressionist painter, Helen Frankenthaler is widely considered one of the world’s most prominent modern female artists. She is often associated with the color field movement, a style characterized by large areas of more or less flat single color. Her work has been the subject of several retrospective exhibitions, including one organized by The Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1989.
