Marisol Escobar is a sculpture whose work defies classification. Inspired by folk art, pre-Columbian art, Cubism, Dadaism, and collage, she gained wide recognition in the 1960’s for her mixed-media figure groups, which included blockish inert forms and their painted, cast-plaster, or found-object features and accoutrements.
