Glenn Goldberg creates luminous paintings using delicate and dotted brushstrokes to build rhythmic visual patterns and familiar renderings of birds, trees and flowers. Questioning how line and simple mark making attain association and meaning, Goldberg’s compositions do not express an intentional narrative, but rather they unveil references subconsciously latent in the work through the eye of the viewer. Aesthetically his work hints at influences ranging from decorative arts to outsider art and the active childhood imagination. In process his work provides a meditative meter both for the artist and his audience.
Glenn Goldberg, born in the Bronx, attended the New York Studio School and Queens College during his undergraduate education, later continuing graduate study at Queens College to receive his MFA. In 1996 he was named the Heilman Artist and since has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation. He currently teaches drawing at the Cooper Union in New York City.
